Our Contracting in STEM Projects.

The Contracting in STEM Mentorship Program provides students with a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and government contracting through hands-on research and project development. Designed to cultivate future innovators, technical leaders, and acquisition professionals, the program pairs students with experienced contracting mentors.

Throughout the program, students conduct independent and collaborative research within their selected STEM disciplines, identifying real-world challenges and emerging technologies that impact industry and society. Participants are gaining exposure to proposal development, project planning, budgeting, compliance requirements, and stakeholder  engagement.

Under mentor guidance, students develop an industry-specific project that demonstrates both technical proficiency and an understanding of the business and contractual frameworks necessary to bring innovative solutions to market. Projects may include engineering designs, scientific studies, technology demonstrations, data analysis initiatives, or research-based solutions aligned with industry and government needs.

The program emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership, communication, and professional development. Students gain practical experience conducting market research, defining project objectives, evaluating risks, developing project schedules, and presenting findings to peers, mentors, and industry professionals. By integrating STEM research with contracting principles, participants develop a comprehensive understanding of how innovative ideas progress from concept to implementation.

Upon completion, students leave the program with enhanced technical knowledge, project management experience, and a deeper appreciation for the role that contracting and acquisition play in advancing scientific discovery, technological innovation, and national priorities. The experience prepares participants for future academic pursuits, internships, and careers across STEM.
